Knights Commercial Laundry in Toowoomba recently made headlines for installing one of the largest washing machines in the Southern Hemisphere.

The new machine is a Lavatec Continuous Batch Washer (CBW), which has the capacity to wash nearly 120kg every two minutes.

Knights teamed up with Hartmons Project Management to install the CBW, which they had shipped all the way from Germany.

Sandro Santo, Knights Commercial Laundry General Manager stated –

“The machine is 22 meters long, weighs about 10 ton, and then we have got a press on top of it, which is about 30 ton and 6 meters high.”

Knight Commercial Laundry has been in the business for over 100 years and has always strived to stay ahead of the curve by continually investing in the latest laundry equipment to improve productivity and quality. The addition of the 1.5 million dollars CBW is no exception, and it is expected to significantly improve the company’s operations.

One of the advantages of the Lavatec CBW is its efficient water and energy usage. The machine has been designed to limit water and detergent usage, resulting in significant savings in utility cost and its environmental impact. The previous machine Knights had installed was using around 21ltrs per 1 kilo of washing, the new CBW is only using 4ltrs per 1 kilo of washing.

Furthermore, having the machine supported by remote control pragmatic system makes it easy to monitor the washing process. Allowing the Knights to dial into the tunnel to stop, start, and correct minor faults from phone or tablet. The machine is also designed to be low-maintenance, minimising downtime and maximising productivity.

The new upgrade by the Knights is a significant development in the laundry industry in Australia.
